The Unpopular Opinions of a Post-Modern Prep

The appropriately inappropriate opinions of a post-modern prep. All the news that's fit to print, and some things that aren't. This tumblr will address hypocrisy in all its flavours. I will be brutal in doing so.

Someone please explain to me what good marriage rights do when you and your partner can be legally fired for being queer.

I’m waiting.

someone please explain to me what good employment rights are when you are denied tax breaks and visitation rights to your dying partner?

i’m waiting.

[see how you have a valid point that gay politics need to expand in scope but see how you aren’t too radical for marriage?]

Please someone explain to me how the fuck you’re supposed to even make it to that dying partner when you’re homeless and starving because you can’t get a fucking job.

Also explain to me why tax breaks from financial symbiosis and visitation rights for nonblood individuals are only given to romantic partnerships? I have a shit ton of non blood family and marriage won’t do crap to let me visit them. There are also tons of people who aren’t romantically involved but still live together on a likely permanent basis (and may be non blood family) and would benefit from merging themselves financially.

So yes, I am too radical for marriage, because I think the rights that marriage gives only to lovers ought to be available across the board, since it isn’t only romantic partners that die in hospitals and can’t be seen by their loved ones.

I’m fucking waiting.

Oh no, what good is it to HAVE A FUCKING JOB when you might have to support your partner while paying taxes as if you’re single?

So I guess starving to death on the street is cool as long as you have all the marriage rights.

single minded social justice example 65934962

as i suggested in my response, this isnt about ENDA VS DOMA, as you pricks keep framing it.

its about how do you expand the gay rights political movement to stress both as equally important?

ps. if you are going to make social justice an un-nuanced pursuit of sob stories, can you tell me how employment rights will help undocumented folks who marry their same sex partners but are prevented by DOMA from seeking legal residency and are often deported? yeah that example has the employment problem, the marriage problem, AND the racism problem. so i win the intersectionality circlejerk ya’ll have going ~

if the potential of ENDA were as dramatic as these “radicals” are making it out to be, race, gender, and national origin would have stopped being factors in US poverty in 1964. whoops. people still get fired/not hired/lower pay under formal legal equality, dipshits.

I really, really hate how the LGBT community has taken the reality that sometimes it’s necessary to prioritize/focus on a few crucial goals and turned it into ONE ISSUE AND ONE ISSUE ONLY. Or I guess it’s more the SJW community, but yeah. Same old same old.

I don’t see why it’s necessary to prioritize one over the other. Obviously the ENDA camp has enough boots on the ground, and the SSM camp as well. Why is it a competition?
I don’t see why there’s all the hate for SSM, though. I’ve only ever seen it in a radikewl sort of perspective, but it just seems needlessly reductionist. To me, it smacks of “but that’s so normative!”, which as an opinion has always grated.
