You’re prevaricating again: first you say I’m white and that this doesn’t apply to me, and then when I explain to you that I am NOT white, you still find a way to dismiss the culture as racist (you specified Black and/or Latin@, and I certainly am the latter). So frankly, I think you’re just looking for a reason to dismiss the dissenting opinion and it’s easiest to focus on my ethnicity.
Incidentally, because I know that non-bigoted rap artists exist doesn’t mean that I don’t find the genre, as it’s represented in the mainstream, to be incredibly hostile to queers and women. I will stand by that statement.
The exemptions do not make the rule, you know—and if a genre is predominantly hostile, I’m not going to waste my time or money supporting artists who would as soon spit on me as anything. I have better things to do with my money. As I said earlier: when the Flobots, Kwelis and Immortal Techniques are better represented, THEN I will wholeheartedly say I support the rap and hip hop genre. Until then, I’ll spend my money supporting musicians, not genres.
Regardless, I am perfectly content to disagree. I still don’t like (mainstream) rap because I feel it’s hostile to women and queers. You can think I’m a bigoted racist to your heart’s content. It’s a big wide internet, and you can hang out over there, and I’ll spend my time here, and never the twain shall meet.
